According to the “emojipedia” the runner emoji is intended to be “gender neutral”; however, most people assume our speedy emoji friend is a male.
The first campaign I was aware of for a lady-runner, or female running emoji was in this Runner’s World article in late 2015. Champion distance athlete and NYC Half Marathon champ Molly Huddle began to campaign for it. Additionally, earlier this year, Brooks joined in to create the perfect runner emoji(s) and we’re jumping on that bandwagon…
