First runs back after the “marathon” last weekend. Easy three Saturday and Sunday. We had such beautiful weather (even the 15 minutes that it POURED on us during my run today! Swipe for Barley) and I’ve been so so so stressed out that it was really nice to just veg, hang out, and spend time with my fam. We got the news yesterday that our “Stay Home” order has been extended through April 29. For those that are local to AVL, I'm going to be looping at Fletcher Park beginning at 7:30am. Welcome to join with physical distancing practices in play 😜 (I refuse to call it "social distancing" because I need all the social support I can get, but we'll remain at a reasonable physically distanced pace) I'll be running about 10-11mm for the first 26.2, carrying my own water and nutrition. I'm hoping to take a short break at 26.2 (after recording my "official" marathon time for the virtual race) and plan to continue another 9.8 miles - likely at a slower pace - to finish 36 miles for my 36th birthday. 3 more days to “race day!” Clara was not interested in being put down during the last 10 minutes of my workout last night. So in addition to my resistance loops, I got a 19-ish pound nugget for extra work. She thought these side lunges were a rollercoaster 😂 . Speaking of rollercoaster, that’s exactly what yesterday was. I had some successes with coaching my team through video conferencing with cameos from babies, cats, dogs (made my whole heart happy to see the faces of people I miss dearly), to some challenges and hard realities that made my heart ache. It’s totally normal to have moments of vulnerability and I’m usually really good at accepting those moments for what they are. But some of those vulnerabilities feel like weakness and that brings up a whole host of extra baggage and emotions. I have such a kick ass boss who respects and supports me. He knows how to take things seriously but keep it light. He intuitively knows when he needs to take over to give me a break and let me have a “moment” and comes back with the perfect puns and remedies. It’s been a long time since I’ve had a boss that I can consider a mentor, a leader, a teacher... that’s what I’m aspiring to be for my team. Unfortunately (fortunately?) they get some of my faults along the way... hopefully we all learn lessons from this. Anyway, today is a new day, and for only the second time in a week now, I slept all night! I’m going to talk about how hard this is. It’s been weighing on me heavily. How hard it is to put the face of strength, flexibility, and resilience on every day. And then lay there at night unable to sleep. Or deal with panic attacks in the middle of your runs. Or have to pull over on your way home from work because you’re so scared to walk into your house that you can’t breathe. But shit, that’s one of the symptoms? No, get it together! Sometimes I think people forget that parents, managers, and supervisors are just people, too. And it’s quite a paradox to keep our shit together for our kids, for our teams, for each other- and then be absolutely losing our shit inside, with no outlet. No reprieve. I feel like I’ve gotten whiplash with the directions I’ve been given since Thursday morning last week. The conflict and escalation that has occurred keeps me awake at night. So do sick kids. And the responsibility of running a team. And then the guilt of asking them to help. And the terror of leaving the house. And the facade when of walking into work. And the breakdown when you make it to your car. Raise your hand if this is where you thought you would be 6 days ago? See this little nugget? She’s my moment of sanity today. She doesn’t see all of this, she sees joy and happiness and excitement.

Taper crazies + COVID crazies = VIRTUAL MARATHON! 4 easy shake out miles today to clear my head. . Unfortunately, my full marathon that I’ve been training for has been cancelled. (Duh). My 20th marathon on my 36th birthday will be a “virtual” race (event on my FB: RunningYogiMom) and I’ll continue running another 9.8 miles beyond the marathon just for fun to round out 36 miles on my 36th year. I wrote a blog about my feelings. It’s probably not worth reading, but it’s there.
